FOR 30 years, Dalbir Sweets Stall has been the ultimate pit stop for quality Indian sweets in Tengku Kelana, Klang. From classic Punjabi sweets like barfi and jelebi to such staple South Indian delights as mysore pak, the sweets stall boasts an offering of 14 traditional candies that are made daily.

If you want ladoo, there are four different flour-based types to choose from, namely sugee, motichoor, boondi and dried fruits, reports Star Metro.

Every ghee-rich ladoo and sugar-soaked gulab jamun is carefully crafted by the skillful hands of Dalbir Kaur, 64, who started the business with her entrepreneurial late husband, Rajender Singh.

“When we first started, we used to source the best sweets from other people to sell. But I quickly realised, why sell other people’s sweets when I can make my own? To this day, every day, I wake up at 5am to make all the sweets,” the report quotes her.

THE REPORT GOES ON:

Dalbir’s bestselling sweets are the motichoor ladoo and the giant ladoo, which is often used for temple ceremonies.

Dalbir has not limited her sweets to common Punjabi candies. To cater to customers’ demand, she has added the Punjabi touch to South Indian sweets.

“Everybody likes Punjabi sweets, because we use very rich and pure ingredients. A lot of customers also ask if I make athirasam and mysore pak.

“So I learnt how to make them but I made them bigger and richer than the other sweet shops,” she said.

True to her word, each athirasam is the size of your palm. The texture and weight of each is just perfect for you to sink your teeth into.

With Dalbir’s offerings reasonably priced between RM1 and RM3, customers should try her other sweet meats like the crispy and flaky soan papdi dessert or the colourful coconut candy.

The jewel of the Dalbir Sweets Stall is still the motichoor ladoo, which is made from the finest gram flour and crushed saffron. These orange balls of sugary goodness are usually sold out within hours.

Arranging trays of freshly made halwa and meticulously placing each ladoo into mini mountains, Dalbir clearly still loves making her special treats.

Whether it is creating the perfect orange coils of jelebi or packaging the finest quality ladoos for weddings and parties, she takes pride in her handmade creations.

“As long as I can walk, I will make my sweets,” Dalbir said.
